Making Holiday Connections Easier with QVoice’s Free, Simple Communication Board

The holiday season is all about being together, sharing joy, and—most importantly—talking with the people we love. If you have a child who uses Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), this busy time is a perfect chance to practice those communication skills in a real, fun way.


That’s why we created our Free Holiday Communication Board, designed to be super easy for beginner AAC users and their families.  


There are many wonderful holiday boards out there in the ethos.  So we thought it might be more interesting to focus on a board we would use with our own family.  Something that's easier for beginner AAC users and their communication partners.  


Why These Words Matter for the Holidays


Saying Hello & Goodbye

This is a great way for your child to start conversations and feel included! Saying "Hello," "Bye-bye," and "Happy holidays" helps them connect with family members right away.


Quick Answers

Words like "Yes," "No," and "Maybe" are the fastest way for your child to answer questions and keep up with what's going on—especially when things are busy!


Action Words (Verbs)

These are the "doing" words.  These are great motivating words that can have lots of opportunities during the break. 

  • OPEN - Get your child to say this whenever they want to open the next gift.  
  • GO - Maybe your child wants to go home.  Or may your child wants to go for a ride.  
  • DRINK / EAT - essential verbs to indicate thirst or hunger
  • MORE - if they want 2nds or 3rd of something on their plate, see if you can get them to request. 


Responses to gifts/favors/visits

These are both positive and negative responses, AAC users are entitled to negative expressions too!
